Grevy’s zebra on Lolldaiga Hills Ranch
By Tom Butynski, Lolldaiga Hills Research Programme
Grevy’s zebra (Equus grevyi) has not been observed on Lolldaiga Hills Ranch for many years. On Christmas Day, 2014, these two adult females were encountered on Lolldaiga Hills Ranch at 1,910 m asl (6,265 ft). This is a higher altitude for Grevy’s zebra than reported in the literature. The world population for this ‘Endangered’ species is estimated to be fewer than 3,000 individuals, most of which are in Laikipia County and Samburu County, central Kenya.
